Situated just outside of High Wycombe (J4, M40) Buckinghamshire, Hamilton Specialist Referrals is a purpose built state-of-the-art hospital which provides the latest cutting edge, specialist treatments for orthopaedic and neurological disease in cats and dogs, supported by an exceptional rehabilitation and physiotherapy facility.

Hamilton Specialist Referrals is borne of the belief that there is room for a new wave of veterinary excellence across the UK. There is a strong focus on providing a personal and reassuring client experience from first contact through to discharge. Excellent clinical care, that is second-to-none, delivered in a friendly and supportive manner to referring vets, is paramount to the team.

The hospital is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is able to offer the most advanced treatment options available for orthopaedic, neurosurgical and neurological cases.

Facilities include on-site 1.5T MRI and CT scanner suites, a variety of joint replacement systems, electro diagnostics, and a full complement of the latest radiography and arthroscopy equipment.

Furthermore, the hospital has a dedicated physiotherapy and rehabilitation department, which will include aqua treadmills and computerised gait analysis technology.

Behind the Scenes

Hamilton Specialist Referrals was designed and built specifically with the wellbeing of patients, clients and staff firmly in the forefront of our minds. Our clinical facilities are second to none and as well as the vast array of ultra- high-tech equipment on-site such as our MRI and CT scanners, our state-of-the-art arthroscopy suite and the latest digital radiography equipment, we have made a huge effort to ensure the non-clinical parts of the hospital are also fixed out and equipped to a truly exceptional standard.

To ensure our patients stay as happy as our wonderful staff, we have a no-bars policy and all of our spacious kennels have glass doors, including our extra-large walk-in kennels. The lighting and ventilation systems provide ambient light and regular fresh air changes to keep the environment fresh and relaxing. We have set aside quiet kennels for more nervous patients and a Sonus sound system for those dogs who prefer to have the radio on for background noise. We have a modern, glass fronted lift to allow easy access to our physiotherapy and hydrotherapy suits.

The work surfaces throughout the clinical areas are made of seam-free CorianTM, reducing the risk of infection as well as looking amazing. In addition, there are:

  • Four dedicated anaesthetic stations
  • Three theatres, one of which is dedicated to joint replacement surgery and has an antimicrobial copper operating table to further reduce infection rates
  • Full in-house laboratory including blood gas analyser
  • MMM Uniclean PL II washer disinfector
  • MMM 420l autoclave

As part of ongoing commitment to maintaining our extremely low infection rates, we perform ongoing clinical audits and all of our staff are regularly swabbed for MRSA, which is present is around 20% of the general population.

Staff Wellbeing

At Hamilton Specialist Referrals we strongly believe that by nurturing our workforce we will enable our staff to fulfil their potential and honour our commitment of providing an incomparable service to our patients, clients and referring vets. We are very proud of our entire team and we employ a wide range of workplace measures to ensure our staff feel happy. From the highest standards of air quality and a proactive CPD programme, to an in-house table tennis league, twice weekly fruit and milk deliveries, free gym membership, complimentary sports massages and private health care we want our staff to feel valued and be happy at work. We work regularly with a Personal Performance Coaches as well as a Mental Health First Aid and Wellbeing Consultants, with a focus on team building, resilience and how to thrive in practice. Every few months we host regular team building sessions use DISC behavioural profiling. All of our staff have undertaken the DISC character profiling to improve self-awareness and improve communication between colleagues; as well as being lots of fun the results are already clear to see. We all work very hard to provide the best service possible and try to do so with a smile at all times.
