We use gait analysis to observe, measure and record an animal’s gait pattern (way of walking). Analysing a succession of recordings means we can empirically see how gait changes pre- and post-surgery, or the effects of our rehabilitative treatments (be they physiotherapy and/or hydrotherapy).

Hamilton Specialist Referrals is the only referral hospital within a 150-mile radius using a treadmill system that can score lameness and record the improvements made during the patient’s rehabilitation programme.

We use state-of-the-art pressure pads and cameras to record and monitor physical changes in the animal, helping to pinpoint the problem areas, measure recovery and establish the optimum time for returning to full activity.

Our equipment can:

Quantify the results found
Compare results across sessions
Highlight any compensatory changes occurring during walk or trot
Confirm the diagnosis of the physical examination
Confirm that the most efficient rehabilitation programme is being delivered

All conditions that are routinely treated with physiotherapy and/or hydrotherapy can be observed, monitored and assessed using gait analysis.

Veterinary referral will be required, even if no treatment is to be carried out.
