Dr Maria Potamopoulou

Maria qualified as a veterinary surgeon with honours in Greece in 2015. She began her career in general practice, working in Cyprus and then Guernsey, before completing surgical internships at Fitzpatrick Referrals and Grove Referrals. After obtaining her Certificate in Small Animal Surgery and spending additional time in general practice, she completed an ECVS-accredited residency in small animal surgery at Fitzpatrick Referrals and AURA Veterinary in July 2025.

Maria has always been drawn to veterinary medicine through her love for animals and science. Surgery fascinates her for the way it blends theory with practical skills, and she has a particular interest in managing trauma patients and those requiring surgical oncology care. She is passionate about preserving the bond between people and their pets; a value shaped by her own relationship with her beloved dog of 13.5 years, who was by her side from her first year of university through halfway through her residency.

Outside of work, Maria enjoys training at the gym, running, dancing, travelling, and getting lost in a good book.
